Saint Constance's Mausoleum

Saint Constance is the mausoleum that between the years 324 and 326, the emperor Constanino constructed in Rome to bury his daughter Constance.

The church is structured into three concentric circles: an outer column that today is missing, a second circle bounded by a wall full of niches, covered by a barrel vault and separated from the third circle by a double colonnade, which had in it a luxurious center sarcophagus.

Mondragone Antinous

Mondragone Antinous was owned by the Borghese family, who had the bust between 130-138 AD centuries.

The eyes and garnishing the top of the head were added later. The bust was inserted into a body of a different material. This type of sculpture is called acrolith because his statue has the wooden torso and extremities (head, hands and feet) marble.

The timber is hidden by clothing, leaving parts of marble outside. The head was part of a statue of Antinous, intended for worship. The head was found in 1720 and exhibited at the Villa Mondragone, near Frascati.
