Santa Maria dei Fiore

It was built by Arnolfo di Cambio and is made of stone, wood and glass. Is located in Florence. It is a symbol of wealth and power of the Tuscan capital during the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. Its name ("Holy Mary of the Flower") refers to the lily, symbol of Florence, or the old name of the village, called Fiorenza, although a fifteenth century document states that the "flower" refers to Christ.

Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute

The basilica was built by Baldassare Longhena and is made of stone and marmorino. Is located in Venice. The Count of Mantua took the black death to Venice, and he was interned on the island Lazzaretto Vecchio. There he came into contact with a carpenter and the infection spread throughout the city. On March 22, 1630, Giovanni Tiepolo made ​​a promise: "I solemnly promise to erect a church in this city and dedicate it to the Virgin Mary, calling it 'Santa Maria della Salute'."
